For most of us, when we began to use alcohol and drugs, we probably started as a way to help us take the edge off, or to relax after a stressful day or maybe to feel more at ease around people. A cold beer, maybe some single malt scotch or even smoking a bowl, helped ease us into the evening. I seriously doubt that we did not begin using with the intention of becoming dependent on anything. Who among thought to ourselves, "I think some addiction will make my life better!"
But overtime, we came to experience that the drinking, weed or pills became a little too important to us. Perhaps our family or friends made some hurtful comments about our substance use, or maybe we got a DUI, lost some people we loved or other painful consequences. Regardless of the consequences, you are visiting this website for a reason, maybe your drinking or using habits or the drug use of someone else are causing some concern or problems in your life.
Tacoma Recovery Counseling can support you in any stage of your recovery process. Perhaps you are simply curious if there really is a problem, or maybe you know you need help and are looking to see what is available.
Below are the 20 Questions of AA. These questions are not diagnostic, but an indicator as to whether drinking or drug use is a problem. You can easily replace the word "drinking" with "smoking weed" or "taking drugs" to fit your particular using pattern. Again, this is not diagnostic, because deciding if you are alcoholic or addicted is an immensely personal decision, and only you can make that decision for yourself. A counselor can only give you their opinion and feedback based on your behavior and using patterns.
